The most prominent feature of our 8.5″ Amitayus Buddha statue is the ambrosia vessel resting on his upturned palms — the long-life vase filled with the nectar of longevity, its lid rising into an ornamental sprouting plume. Amitayus wears the full Bodhisattva crown and jewels: a five-pointed crown framed by curling gold ribbons beside the ears, floral rosette earrings, layered beaded necklaces, armbands, and wristlets. Above the crown, his blue-black hair gathers into the ushnisha topknot, capped with a gold finial — an arrangement counted among the traditional 32 marks of an enlightened being. The urna, the third eye between the brows, indicates that Amitayus has achieved the state of perfected wisdom, and his face is finished with delicate hand-painted detail, from the light blue arched brows to the lips finished in red. Upon request, we will adorn the crown and jewels of the statue with turquoise and coral stones at no extra cost.

Amitayus sits in full lotus pose, also known as the vajra pose, on a single lotus pedestal finished with beaded rims. Vajra is a Sanskrit word that translates as diamond or lightning bolt — a symbol of indestructible virtue. Ribboned scarves loop around both elbows and flow into engraved swirls at either side of his knees. Our Amitayus statue would make an inspirational addition to your home or meditation center.

Amitayus Statue used for Longevity Rituals

An Amitayus statue is used as the centerpiece of Tibetan longevity rituals, because Amitayus is the embodiment of the longevity attribute of Amitabha Buddha. Buddhas and high-level Bodhisattvas have the ability to take any form necessary to ease the suffering of sentient beings, and Amitabha appears as Amitayus through his sambhogakaya — the celestial body through which a Buddha manifests to grant blessings, in this case long life, to devotees.
