Maitreya Buddha Thangkas

The Maitreya Buddha of the future resides in Tusita Heaven while he awaits his time to return to the earthly realm. As a result, our Maitreya Buddha Tibetan thangka paintings depict the future Buddha sitting upright. This is a feature that is unique to Maitreya in contrast with other Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Additionally, Meitreya Buddha Thangka paintings depict him adorned with lotus flowers growing over his shoulders. The Dharma wheel rests inside of the lotus blossom. When it is time for his return, sentient life will have long forgotten the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. Maitreya Buddha will reteach the Dharma and achieve enlightenment when he returns.
