White Tara Statue | 9-inch Gold Gilded Seven-Eyed Goddess

This 9-inch White Tara Statue depicts the seven-eyed goddess of compassion, healing and longevity in an exceptionally detailed traditional form. Known as Dolkar in Tibetan, Sita Tara in Sanskrit and Cintachakra, the “Wish Fulfilling Wheel,” White Tara is one of the most important longevity deities of Tibetan Buddhism. Handmade in Patan, Nepal from copper alloy using the traditional lost-wax casting method, this sculpture is fire gilded in 24K gold. Her serene face is hand painted with 18K gold and natural pigments, while blue-black hair and subtle colored accents provide contrast against the luminous gilded surface.

White Tara’s seven eyes distinguish her immediately from many other manifestations of Tara. In addition to her two natural eyes, a third wisdom eye appears prominently upon her forehead, while additional eyes traditionally appear in the palms of both hands and the soles of both feet. She sits peacefully in full lotus posture upon a finely sculpted lotus throne. Her extended right hand rests across the knee in Varada Mudra, the gesture of generosity and the granting of blessings. Her left hand is raised near her heart while delicately holding the stem of a lotus. Two flowering lotus stems rise beside her shoulders, creating a balanced floral frame around the figure. One displays a fully opened blossom while the other is represented at a different stage of flowering, a detail traditionally associated with the unfolding of enlightened awareness.

Gold Gilded White Tara Craftsmanship

The sculpture presents White Tara with the elaborate ornaments of an enlightened Bodhisattva. Her tall crown rises above carefully modeled blue-black hair gathered into a high topknot. Large floral earrings frame her face, while layered necklaces, bracelets and other ornaments cover the upper body. Finely engraved patterns decorate her garments, and long celestial scarves sweep behind her arms before curling gracefully beside the lotus throne. These flowing elements give the otherwise meditative composition a sense of movement without disturbing Tara’s calm presence.
