Golden Buddha exists because of two things: a fascination with the temples and sacred art found across Asia, and a nine-year working relationship with a family business in Kathmandu that has spent over two decades connecting Nepali artisans with collectors and practitioners around the world. Together, that combination is what allows us to bring authentic, handmade Tibetan Buddhist statues directly from Patan, Nepal, to altars, meditation spaces, and Dharma centers worldwide.
How Golden Buddha Began
I’m Edwin, and Golden Buddha grew out of more than ten years living in Southeast Asia. During that time, I spent countless hours in temples and monasteries across Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, and that exposure to Buddhist art and ritual practice across the region is what eventually drew me specifically toward Tibetan Buddhist sculpture.
The deeper I looked into where the finest statues actually came from, the more that trail led to Nepal — specifically to Patan, in the Kathmandu Valley, where Newar artisans have produced sacred Buddhist art for centuries. I wanted to find a way to connect that tradition directly with people outside Asia who were searching for the real thing, without language barriers, without guesswork about authenticity, and without going through layers of resellers.

That connection became possible through a family-run business in Kathmandu that I’ve now worked directly with for nine years. Now in its third generation, this Kathmandu partner has spent more than twenty years coordinating international handicraft sales for artisans across the city — managing relationships with individual workshops, handling quality control, and shipping every statue, thangka, and ritual item directly from Nepal. Beyond sourcing for Golden Buddha, I also help market many of these artisans’ own work internationally, supporting the wider craft community that keeps these traditions alive.
This is also why Golden Buddha is able to operate the way it does: clear product descriptions, personal communication throughout the ordering process, and shipping handled by people who know the artisans personally rather than a faceless export warehouse.
Authenticity You Can Trust
Every statue and ritual item we offer is inspected before export and certified by Nepal’s Department of Archaeology in Kathmandu, in keeping with the country’s cultural and customs requirements — documentation that travels with the shipment so you know exactly what you’re receiving and where it came from. For customers who want to take that a step further, we can also arrange consecration (rabne) at Sangye Choeling Monastery in Kathmandu, formally activating a statue as a genuine object of devotional practice.

Every statue and ritual item is handcrafted in Patan, Nepal, using traditional lost wax casting and comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by Nepal's Department of Archaeology, verifying its materials, technique, and origin.
