Our gold gilded Black Mahakala statue has three glaring eyes revealing his knowledge of the past, present and the future. The statue stands within the flames of pristine awareness that consume all neurotic states. Additionally, Mahakala tramples on the Hindu god Ganesha showing he is the true remover of all obstacles. This Mahakala statue wears the crown adorned with five skulls representing the five poisons. The poisons of hatred, greed, ignorance, pride and jealousy have been transmuted into five transcendent wisdoms. In Mahakala practice his mantra is used to encourage virtuous thinking which will inhibit and eventually destroy the five poisons. The Mahakala mantra is: OM SHRI MAHAKALA HUM HUM PHAT SVAHA

Furthermore, Mahakala is a Bodhisattva who is also a wisdom protector known as a Dharmapala. As a result, his six arms represent his attainment of the six Bodhisattva perfections. Additionally, in his six hands our gold gilded Mahakala statue holds six symbolic objects.

1) Kapala Skull Cup
2) Kartika Flaying Knife
3) Damaru Drum
4) Trident
5) Skull Rosary
6) Lasso

Six armed Black Mahakala has a fierce countenance which belies his compassionate nature. Indeed, his wrathful depiction is intended to remove obstacles to spiritual realization. Additionally, Tibetan Buddhists believe that Black Mahakala is the wrathful embodiment of Avalokiteshvara.
