Our 13″ fully 24K gold gilded Amitabha Buddha statue was hand carved and fire gilded in Patan, Nepal, by our master artisans using traditional methods passed down through generations of Newari metalworkers. The statue depicts one of the most unique and highly venerated Buddhas in the Mahayana and Tibetan traditions — Amitabha, the Buddha of Infinite Light. As the Bodhisattva Dharmakara, Amitabha accumulated an infinite amount of merit across countless lifetimes before attaining Buddhahood, which is the origin of his name and his defining quality among all the Buddhas.

Pure Land Buddhists teach that Amitabha presides over a pure land of extraordinary beauty and bliss called Sukhavati, which lies to the west. Amitabha vowed to forgo Buddhahood until he could guarantee his own pure land for the benefit of all beings, and he admits anyone who sincerely calls his name or recites his mantra. This statue reflects that role as ruler of the Western Pure Land — read the complete account in our guide to The Pure Land of Sukhavati.

Amitabha Statue Features

Notable features of this statue include its fully fire-gilded 24K gold finish, extending across the robe as well as the skin, and a delicately hand-painted face — teal-blue eyebrows, soft rose eyeliner, and lips finished in red, set against the deep blue-black of his hair. His hair rises to the ushnisha, the cranial protuberance that is one of the 32 traditional marks of a fully enlightened being, topped here with a small gold finial, while the urna between his brows represents his radiant, all-illuminating wisdom. His robe is finished with fine scrollwork trim along every border and cuff, gathered at the waist by a distinctive knotted sash.

Our Amitabha statue sits on a single lotus pedestal in full lotus pose, holding his alms bowl in the Dhyana Mudra, the meditation gesture. To learn more about the symbolism behind this piece, see our guide to Amitabha Buddha Statue Meaning & Symbolism.

Buddhist teaching holds that Amitabha’s insight into the nature of reality is a quality possible only for a fully enlightened being — a form of wisdom cultivated through sustained meditation practice rather than intellectual study alone. Amitabha is also one of the Five Dhyani Buddhas — explore his complete role in the pantheon in Amitabha Buddha — Infinite Light and Life, or browse our full collection of Amitabha Buddha statues to compare sizes and finishes.
