This beautiful multicolored 10.5″ Amitabha Buddha statue sits in full lotus pose, depicting the Dhyana Mudra — the meditation gesture. He holds the alms bowl of a mendicant monk in the palm of his right hand, filled with the nectar of spiritual nourishment. Amitabha’s discriminating wisdom is specifically associated with transforming the poison of desire and attachment, one of the five poisons addressed by the Five Dhyani Buddhas.
This Amitabha Buddha displays several of the traditional 32 marks of an enlightened being: the urna, or third eye of wisdom, between the brows; elongated earlobes recalling his princely origins and symbolizing renunciation; and the three folds of the neck, an auspicious mark of physical perfection. Behind the crown he wears the ushnisha — the cranial protuberance that is one of the 32 major marks, formed of hair coils that turn to the right.
Red Amitabha Buddha Statue Features
Our Nepali master artisans created this beautiful red Amitabha Buddha statue with the jewelry and crown of a Bodhisattva. At the request of the buyer, we would be happy to adorn the crown and jewels with turquoise and red stones — turquoise is a combination of blue and green, where blue signifies the purity of the Buddhas and green symbolizes their readiness to act.
Devotees meditating on the color red can transform the delusion of attachment into the wisdom of discernment — red is Amitabha’s defining color among the Five Dhyani Buddhas. The mudra, alms bowl, lotus throne, and red coloring on this statue each carry meaning — explore Amitabha Statue Iconography: Mudra, Color & Form to learn more.
Amitabha Buddha is highly venerated in both Mahayana and Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibet, his longevity attribute is expressed through his sambhogakaya form, Amitayus, invoked in longevity rituals for long life and the removal of obstacles to practice. Amitabha is also known as the “Buddha of Infinite Light” because of the immeasurable merit he accumulated as the Bodhisattva Dharmakara — see his full role in the pantheon in Amitabha Buddha — Infinite Light and Life.
