This 6″ Medicine Buddha statue is the only figure in the Golden Buddha collection to present Medicine Buddha in his iconographically canonical form: the deep blue lapis lazuli body described in the Medicine Buddha Sutra and depicted in all traditional Tibetan thangkas. The body is finished in lapis paste — a technique in which powdered lapis lazuli is applied to the copper surface to produce the deep blue that is impossible to achieve through gilding alone — while the robes, lotus throne, and ornamental details are gold plated in bright gold with intricate hand-engraved scrollwork throughout. The statue was handcrafted in Patan, Nepal by master Newar artisans using the traditional lost wax sculpting method. Note: the gold finish on this statue is gold plated (electroplated) rather than fire gilded — a different process that produces an equally bright gold surface suited to this combination with the lapis paste body.

In the Medicine Buddha Sutra, Medicine Buddha’s first great vow describes his body as radiating the clarity and purity of lapis lazuli — inside and out, illuminating all beings dwelling in darkness. The lapis blue color is not simply decorative but iconographically precise: it connects Medicine Buddha to the quality of clarity itself, the unstained transparency of awareness that can see the nature of suffering and its causes without distortion. Tibetan Buddhist tradition also associates the blue color spectrum with the transmutation of anger into mirror-like wisdom — the form of clarity that perceives all phenomena without distortion or preference. This is the form of Medicine Buddha that practitioners visualize when reciting his mantra — Om Bekandze Bekandze Maha Bekandze Radza Samudgate Soha — and this statue makes that visualization directly accessible. Lapis Medicine Buddha Statue Features

Medicine Buddha sits in full lotus posture, his right hand in the Varada mudra — the boon-granting gesture, palm open and facing outward — holding the stem of the myrobalan plant between thumb and index finger, the gift of healing wisdom extended toward all beings. His left hand rests in the Dhyana mudra holding the lapis lazuli medicine bowl in the open palm — here also finished in the deep blue of the lapis paste, the bowl and body forming a unified statement of his healing presence. The three nectars in the bowl heal the three poisons of greed, hatred, and ignorance at their root. At 6″ this is a personal altar size suited to a home healing practice or meditation shrine.
