This 10.5″ Shakyamuni Buddha statue presents the most visually distinctive finish in our Shakyamuni collection: a multicolored treatment applied to the robe, throne, and body, combined with 24K gold fire gilding on the crown, jewels, and key ornamental details. The use of multiple colors in Himalayan Buddhist statuary is not decorative but symbolic — each color corresponds to a specific quality of enlightened mind, and a multicolored statue applies that iconographic language directly to the figure rather than leaving it implied. The statue was handcrafted in Patan, Nepal by master artisans of the Shakya caste using the traditional lost wax sculpting method. At the buyer’s request, the crown and jewels can be additionally embellished with turquoise and red coral stones at no extra charge — submit the preference before the order ships and the artisan will include them before delivery.

Shakyamuni Buddha — the Buddha of our current era — was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama into the Shakya royal family in Lumbini, Nepal, and achieved full enlightenment under the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya after years of intensive meditation practice. He subsequently spent decades teaching the Dharma to sentient beings, setting in motion a tradition of Himalayan Buddhist art that has been producing statues of this figure for over a thousand years. Multicolored Shakyamuni Buddha Statue Features

Shakyamuni is depicted in full lotus posture displaying the Bhumisparsha mudra — the earth-touching gesture — right hand draped over the right knee with the palm facing inward and fingers extended downward toward the ground. This is the gesture he displayed under the Bodhi tree as he called the earth deity to witness his enlightenment against the challenge of Mara — the mudra most closely and exclusively associated with the historical Buddha in Himalayan Buddhist iconography. His left hand rests in the lap in the Dhyana mudra — the meditation gesture, palm open and upward — with the alms bowl resting in the palm, holding the three nectars that counteract the three poisons of greed, hatred, and ignorance.

The statue also bears the traditional iconographic markings of the historical Buddha: the ushnisha (crown protuberance), three neck folds, and the urna (third eye of wisdom between the brows). The optional turquoise stones in the crown carry their own symbolic reading in Tibetan Buddhist art — turquoise combining the blue of purity with the green of compassionate action, the two qualities that together characterize an enlightened being’s relationship to the world.
