This exquisite 9-inch Tibetan Chenrezig Sculpture presents the peaceful four-armed form of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva who embodies the limitless compassion of all Buddhas. Handmade in Patan, Nepal from copper alloy using the traditional lost-wax casting method, the sculpture is fire gilded in 24K gold, creating the luminous surface that immediately distinguishes the piece. Chenrezig sits serenely in the full lotus posture upon a single lotus pedestal, surrounded by flowing celestial scarves that rise into sculpted scrollwork at either side.

The peaceful face is hand painted with 18K gold and natural pigments, with finely outlined eyes, blue eyebrows and delicately painted lips complementing the deep blue hair. An elaborate Bodhisattva crown rises above the forehead, while a miniature figure of Amitabha Buddha appears above the crown and topknot, identifying Chenrezig’s connection with the Buddha of Infinite Light. Chaturbhuja Avalokiteshvara and the Four Arms of Compassion

Four-armed Chenrezig is among the most recognizable manifestations of Avalokiteshvara in Tibetan Buddhism. His four arms are traditionally associated with the four immeasurables of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity. The foremost pair meet before his heart in Anjali mudra, expressing devotion and the compassionate union of wisdom and method. The upper right hand holds one of this sculpture’s most unusual artistic features: a freely suspended mala. Rather than being carved against the body, the delicate strand arcs through open space from Chenrezig’s hand, demonstrating the precision of the lost-wax casting and finishing work. The mala recalls the continual recitation of Om Mani Padme Hum, the six-syllable mantra inseparably associated with Chenrezig. Tibetan Chenrezig Sculpture Paired with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara

This peaceful four-armed Chenrezig makes an especially meaningful pairing with Thousand-Armed Avalokiteshvara. They are not separate Bodhisattvas, but different manifestations of Avalokiteshvara’s compassion. Four-armed Chenrezig expresses its intimate, contemplative dimension, while the thousand-armed form expresses compassion expanded into limitless activity, reaching outward to aid innumerable sentient beings simultaneously.

Displayed together, the two forms create a compelling visual progression from meditative compassion to compassionate action.
