This 19″ standing multicolored Shakyamuni Buddha sculpture is hand painted and fire gilded in 24K gold — one of the most vividly finished pieces in our collection. His deep maroon robe is covered in hand-painted gold floral brocade, trimmed in green at the collar and hems, while his face is painted a warm orange-gold with delicate accents around the eyes and lips, beneath blue-black curled hair rising to the ushnisha. Our artisans in Patan, Nepal, have perfected the art of lost wax metal casting over more than 1,000 years, earning a reputation as world-class sculptors and becoming the preferred source of the Tibetan monasteries — so when you purchase our standing Shakyamuni Buddha statue, you can rest assured you have procured a monastic quality piece.
Standing Shakyamuni Buddha Statue Features
The standing Buddha posture is traditionally affiliated with Shakyamuni Buddha himself, honoring the original Buddha as he walked among his followers, teaching. His right hand hangs in the Varada, or “gift giving,” mudra — palm flat and facing outward, fingers extended toward the earth — expressing the gift of Dharma knowledge the Buddha gave to all sentient beings, with a diamond-shaped vajra emblem painted on the open palm as a symbol of indestructible virtue. His left hand is raised at the chest, gathering the hem of his robe in the classic gesture of the standing Buddha. The sculpture was finished using the fire gilding method, so the 24K gold detailing glows against the bright multicolored painting — and behind the head rises a removable aureole, a green foliate teardrop frame with red trim surrounding a radiant gold halo, which can be adjusted or displayed to the preference of the buyer. He stands on a gold platform ringed with lotus petals painted in blue, green, red, and gold, atop a stepped rectangular throne in painted tiers of scrollwork.
