This 24.5″ Chenrezig statue (Lokeshvara) was hand carved by our Shakya craftsman and fully gold gilded with a 24K fire gilded finish. At 22 kg of copper alloy and gold, it is a true monastery-scale centerpiece. The artisan created our beautiful Chenrezig with the jewelry and crown of a bodhisattva. At the request of the buyer, we would be happy to adorn the crown and jewels of the statue with turquoise or red coral stones. At no extra charge, the skilled artisan can embellish the statue with these special decorations before delivery. The color turquoise is a special combination of blue and green, and the color red pays tribute to Amitabha Buddha.

Symbolism of our Chenrezig Statue

In the upper right hand our Chenrezig statue clutches the 108 mala beads, because he is constantly reciting his mantra Om Mani Padme Hum. In his upper left hand he holds a magnificent open lotus blossom at shoulder height — Chenrezig is also known as “Padmapani,” a Sanskrit word meaning “lotus holder.” Indeed, the lotus flower is very important in Buddhism because it is a symbol for supreme awakening.

However, Chenrezig has vowed to forgo Buddhahood until all suffering is eliminated. As a result, Chenrezig is known as the “Bodhisattva of Compassion” because of his infinite compassion for sentient life. Additionally, devotees have come to directly associate him with the compassion of the Buddha. To learn more about this Bodhisattva’s role as the patron deity of Tibet, see our guide to Avalokiteshvara and Chenrezig meaning.

Our Chenrezig statue has his two main hands pressed together in front of his chest. In between his hands is the mythical cintamani jewel, which will grant the wishes of faithful devotees. He sits in the full lotus pose on a lotus pedestal with boldly carved petals and a beaded rim, carved ribbons rising at either side, his mirror-polished robes flowing over crossed legs beneath finely engraved hems and a layered, jeweled girdle.

At nearly 25 inches, this masterpiece is made for a dedicated shrine room or meditation center, and like all of our sculptures it is ready for filling, blessing, and consecration in your own tradition. You can view it alongside the rest of our work in the complete statue gallery.
