The youthful Bodhisattva sits before an openwork surround filled with curling foliate forms, raised leaf-shaped ornaments and scrolling details arranged around an inner beaded arch. Rather than functioning as a simple background, the frame visually encloses Manjushri and emphasizes the raised Sword of Wisdom and lotus-borne scripture that identify him as Jampelyang, “Gentle Splendor of Melodious Speech.” Handmade in Patan, Nepal from copper alloy using the traditional lost-wax casting method, the sculpture is fire gilded in 24K gold, while the serene face is separately hand painted with 18K gold and natural pigments. Blue-black hair, carefully outlined eyes and softly painted lips introduce restrained color against the warm gold surfaces.

Ornate Aureole and Himalayan Detailing
The frame is one of this sculpture’s strongest distinguishing features. Broad raised ornaments form a symmetrical crown around the figure, surrounded by smaller scrolling elements and a layered inner arch. Manjushri himself wears an elaborate Bodhisattva crown, large circular earrings, necklaces and finely modeled ornaments. Long celestial scarves descend from the shoulders and curl outward beside the body, visually linking the seated figure with the surrounding aureole. He rests in full lotus posture, and subtle engraved patterns can be seen across portions of the lower garments. The lotus throne combines a beaded upper border with a row of broad raised lotus-petal carvings and an engraved decorative band around the lower base.
Turquoise and red coral gemstones may be embedded into appropriate settings in the crown and jewelry upon request. These optional stones can add small accents of traditional Himalayan color without overwhelming the detailed gilded workmanship of the sculpture and frame.
