The artisan gave our 9.75″ Dolkar (White Tara) sculpture an antiquated finish with silver plating details — and the silver highlights stand out beautifully against the deep oxidized body. The crown, earrings, layered necklaces, armbands, and the trim of her dhoti are all worked in silver, the upright third eye on her forehead is picked out in silver, and the utpala lotus blossoming beside her left shoulder is rendered entirely in silver on its foliate stem. The artisan completed the statue with the full crown and jewels of a Bodhisattva, which can be embellished with turquoise and red stones upon request, at no extra cost — your statue will be the center of attention in your home or meditation center.

The statue was created using the traditional lost wax sculpting method, resulting in a finely detailed sculpture that will last for many lifetimes. For many centuries the Nepali artisans have perfected their craft, passing the knowledge down through the family castes — they are among the best sculptors in the world, and the Tibetan monasteries have long preferred them as their source of Buddhist sculptures and ritual items.

Dolkar Sculpture Features

Our Dolkar sculpture depicts the Varada, or “gift giving,” mudra with the right hand resting open over the knee — for Dolkar is deeply affiliated with generosity. She is also known as Cintachakra, the “wish fulfilling wheel,” and is one of the three long life deities in Tibetan Buddhism — read more about White Tara’s meaning and symbolism. Dolkar is empowered with the attributes of healing, compassion, and serenity, and devotees invoke these blessings by reciting her mantra — learn it in our guide to the White Tara mantra.

Her left hand is raised chest-high, thumb and finger touching in the gesture of refuge and teaching — a hand symbol that, like the Abhaya mudra of fearlessness it echoes, inspires a sense of fortitude and confidence in devotees who see it. Silver scarf-ends curl in swirls at either side of her seat, completing the composition. Browse our full collection of White Tara statues to compare sizes and finishes.
