Tibetan Jampelyang Statue | 9.25-Inch 24K Gold | Manjushri

This magnificent 9.25-inch Tibetan Jampelyang Statue portrays Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom, in an exceptionally ornate traditional form. Handmade in Patan, Nepal, the sculpture is cast in copper alloy using the lost-wax method and fire gilded in 24K gold. The craftsmanship is distinguished by extensive hand-engraved ornamentation across the dhoti, shoulder wrap, jewelry and lotus pedestal, together with turquoise and red coral gemstones embedded throughout the composition. Manjushri’s youthful face is hand painted with 18K gold and natural pigments, framed by blue-black hair and an elaborate jeweled Bodhisattva crown. He sits in the full vajra posture while raising his Sword of Wisdom above his right shoulder.

Symbolism of the Tibetan Jampelyang Statue

Jampelyang is the Tibetan name for Manjushri, one of the most important Bodhisattvas of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He embodies prajna, or transcendent wisdom: insight capable of penetrating appearances and directly understanding the nature of reality. His Sanskrit name Manjushri is commonly translated as “Gentle Glory.” The youthful appearance of this sculpture expresses the freshness and clarity of awakened wisdom rather than physical age. Two complementary attributes immediately identify him. In his raised right hand, Manjushri brandishes the Sword of Wisdom, whose blade symbolically cuts through ignorance, attachment and mistaken views. His left hand forms a graceful teaching gesture while holding the stem of the lotus rising beside his shoulder. Upon the blossom rests the Prajnaparamita Sutra, representing the Perfection of Wisdom teachings. Together, sword and scripture unite realized insight with the teachings through which wisdom is cultivated.

Exceptional Engraving and Gemstone Details

The craftsmanship of this Tibetan Jampelyang Statue is particularly apparent when viewed from different angles. Intricate engraved patterns cover the richly ornamented dhoti, continuing around the figure and across the broad shoulder wrap visible from the rear. Similar detailing appears around the waist, jewelry and substantial lotus throne. Turquoise and red coral gemstones are embedded individually into the crown, necklaces, garments and other decorative elements, introducing restrained points of blue and red against the warm gilded surface. Long celestial scarves curl outward beside the figure, balancing the upward sweep of the sword and lotus.
