This handcrafted Tibetan mandala offering set measures 10.25 inches when fully assembled and was created by skilled metal artisans in Patan, Nepal. The set is made from warm copper alloy and includes a broad Vajra Bhumi base plate, three graduated upper rings, and a removable Dharma Wheel finial. As verified in the photographs, detailed floral scrollwork, lotus-inspired blossoms, curling foliage, and traditional ornamental motifs extend around the outer walls of every ring. Contrasting brass borders engraved with continuous geometric patterns frame the upper and lower edges of each component. The teardrop-shaped finial features additional floral carving, a beaded outer border, an openwork Dharma Wheel, and a decorative colored center. This traditional ritual set may be placed alongside our Buddha statues, Tibetan thangkas, and Tibetan butter lamps when arranging a complete Buddhist shrine.

Hand-Carved Tibetan Mandala Offering Set

Each component is individually formed, engraved, fitted, and finished by hand. The floral decoration continues around the complete circumference of the Vajra Bhumi and graduated rings rather than appearing only on the front. Smaller ornamental bands of petals and geometric designs create additional definition above and below the primary floral panels. The smooth copper interiors provide an appropriate surface for holding rice or other offering grains, while the graduated diameters create the stepped structure used to represent the Buddhist universe. The removable finial rises from a tiered lotus-style pedestal and crowns the completed mandala with the Dharma Wheel, symbolizing the Buddha’s teachings and their transmission.

Preparing the Mandala Offering

Begin the practice by holding the Vajra Bhumi in the left hand while keeping the right hand free. Rub the base clockwise three times with the right forearm while visualizing the purification of mental obscurations. Place a small pinch of rice or grain on the cleaned surface and position the largest ring flat upon the base. Fill the first level while forming heaps in the four cardinal directions and visualizing the continents of the Buddhist cosmos.

Place the second ring and add grain while visualizing precious objects, desirable qualities, and worldly abundance. Add the third and fourth rings in sequence while imagining the sun, moon, celestial realms, and the complete universe. Finally, position the Dharma Wheel finial firmly upon the uppermost heap of grain to complete the symbolic cosmos. The assembled Tibetan mandala offering set may then be lifted with both hands and touched respectfully to the forehead before being raised above the head.

Reciting and Completing the Offering

While holding the mandala aloft, complete the visualization of offering the entire universe to the guru, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and the Three Jewels. Recite the customary offering prayer or mantra, including Idam Guru Ratna Mandalakam Niryatayami, and dedicate the merit for the benefit of all beings. After completing the recitation, lower the mandala carefully and tip the rings inward toward the chest so the grains collapse toward you, symbolizing the reception of merit and blessings. The individual components can then be cleaned with a soft dry cloth and nested together for convenient storage. This Tibetan mandala offering set is suitable for daily preliminary practices, meditation retreats, Dharma centers, monasteries, or traditional altar display.
