White Tara is also known by the name Cintachakra, which translates into English as the “wish fulfilling wheel” — and a Cintachakra sculpture may help to heal illness and enable longevity. Buddhists also believe the laws of cause and effect apply to all events, so Cintachakra sculptures most benefit those who are genuinely encouraged toward her virtues.
Cintachakra is counted among the 21 emanations of the Bodhisattva Tara. Tara has a playful quality: she is said to appear to devotees who have grown too rigid or dogmatic about their Dharma vows, gently encouraging them to lighten up so they may progress more effectively. Cintachakra also encourages women to be diligent on the path — she has vowed to appear only in female form until women are fully represented among the ranks of the Buddhas. Read the story in our guide to Tara’s origins and meaning.
Special Features of Cintachakra Sculpture
Our Cintachakra sculpture showcases her seven eyes: an eye on the palm of each hand — delicately painted, and clearly visible on both her raised Abhaya hand and her open Varada hand — and on the sole of each foot, so that each of her actions is carried out with virtue and wisdom. A third eye stands upright in the middle of her brow in addition to the two eyes of her face, so that all her thoughts are likewise imbued with virtue.
The sculpture is finished in a striking partly gilded style: her face, torso, hands, crown, jewelry, lotus sprays, and flowing scarves shine in fire gilded 24K gold, while the dhoti draped over her legs and the lotus base are left in a warm oxidized copper, edged in gold trim — a two-tone contrast that draws the eye to her serene, hand painted expression. Our Cintachakra sculpture is adorned with the crown and jewels of a Bodhisattva, its intricate detail produced using the lost wax method. For many centuries our Nepali sculptors have been the preferred choice of the Tibetan monasteries for statues and ritual items, so you can rest assured you have procured a monastic quality Cintachakra statue.
At the buyer’s request, we are happy to adorn the crown and jewels of the sculpture with turquoise and coral stones — we can embellish the statue at no extra charge before delivery.
