Our fearsome Rahula Statue is an embodiment of a Dharmapala. A dharmapala is either a Buddha or Bodhisattva that has taken on a wrathful appearance. Additionally, the purpose is to act as the defender of the Dharma. Also, their objective is to protect Buddhist practitioners from obstacles that can impede their spiritual development. Indeed, dharmapala is a Sanskrit word that translates as “Dharma Defender”.

As a result, these defenders take on a frightening appearance. Typically, they can appear as multi-headed creatures carrying weapons. Additional features include fangs and glaring eyes. Nonetheless, our Rahula statue is an embodiment of a Buddha or bodhisattva’s compassion. Therefore, they only act in a wrathful manner for the good of sentient beings.

Rahula Statue Features

The awe inspiring form of Rahula is masterfully sculpted by our master artisan in Patan, Nepal. Dharmapalas are Tibetan deities whose origins lie in Vajrayana Buddhism. As a result, our sculptors in Patan have been supplying the Tibetan monasteries with statues for many centuries. Therefore when you buy our Rahula statue you can rest assured that it is of monastic quality. Additionally, it will surely be an inspiration to whoever lays their eyes on it.

The original Rahula was believed to have swallowed the 9 celestial planets. As a result, the 9 planets appear as heads above the original. Each head has 3 glaring eyes and his 4 arms are covered with numerous eyes. Additionally, two of his arms are charging a bow and arrow while the other two hold a snake lasso and a makara stick. Also, each mouth is depicted with fearsome fangs.

Our Rahula statue is depicted wearing a necklace of heads and he has the body of a naga (serpent). On each of Rahula’s 9 heads sits a crown adorned with skulls. From his ears there are large earrings hanging. Last but not least, the statue frame is removable which can be adjusted according to your own personnel preference.
