Our beautiful oxidized copper Seven-Eyed Tara statue has all of the classic features: her seven eyes, two lotus flowers rising as rosette blooms on carved stems at her shoulders, and the Abhaya and Varada mudras. Seven Eyed Tara is seated in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal, and our Nepali artisans gave the statue its antiquated finish through the careful oxidation of the copper alloy — a striking two-tone effect, her warm copper skin set against the deep, near-black finish of her crown, jewelry, dhoti, and flowing scarves, with her serene features carved directly into the metal.

At the request of the buyer, we are happy to adorn the crown and jewels of the statue with turquoise and red coral stones — at no extra cost, we can embellish the statue before delivery, and the colored stones stand out beautifully against the dark finish. For common questions, see the White Tara statues FAQ.

Seven Eyed Tara Statue Features

The Abhaya mudra is known as the protection mudra — a classic gesture used by many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, meant to inspire a sense of fearlessness and confidence in devotees. Seven Eyed Tara depicts it with her left hand held chest-high, palm facing forward, the eye of the Seven-Eyed goddess carved into the open palm.

Our Seven Eyed Tara statue also uses the Varada, or “gift giving,” mudra, her right hand resting open over the knee — for Seven Eyed Tara is deeply generous. She is also known as Cintachakra, the “wish fulfilling wheel,” and carries the attributes of long life, healing, compassion, and serenity — read about her role among the three long life deities in our guide to the long life deities — White Tara, Amitayus & Namgyalma.

Seven Eyed Tara is one of the most beloved embodiments of the Bodhisattva Tara. Her origins lie in the compassion of Avalokiteshvara: it is believed she was born from a teardrop that fell from his eye as he wept over the suffering of beings. Dismayed that so few women had become fully fledged Buddhas, Tara vowed to appear only in female form until that changes.
