Our Geshe Langri Tangpa statue was hand crafted in Patan, Nepal using the traditional lost wax sculpting method. The lost wax method has been perfected by the Nepali artisans over many centuries. As a result, the buyer can rest assured they have purchased a monastic quality sculpture which will last for many lifetimes. The high quality of Nepali sculpture is known worldwide, indeed, the Tibetan monasteries have purchased statues and ritual items made in Nepal for hundreds of years.

Geshe Langri Tangpa Statue Features:

Geshe Langri Tangpa displays the Vitarka mudra with his right hand which encourages teaching and intellectual debate. He was a renown Buddhist scholar of the Kadampa school who wrote the famous “Eight Verses of Training the Mind”. Additionally, he sits in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal. His left hand rests in his lap displaying the Dhyani “meditation” mudra.

The face of the statue was hand painted using real gold. Geshe Langri Tangpa famously never smiled, as a result his followers often referred to him as “Gloomy Face”. The statue was fire gilded using the traditional method which leaves behind a pure 24k gold residual finish.  Furthermore, the trim of the robe features finely detailed engravings.
