This Amitayus Buddha statue features an authentic hand-carved crystal body — the face, torso, and arms rendered in translucent smoky crystal, with the serene facial features carved directly into the polished stone. Our Shakya artisans in Patan, Nepal, completed the statue using only traditional sculpting methods, framing the crystal with a fire gilded 24K pure gold crown, jewelry, hands, and robe, and setting embedded semi-precious stones in green and violet along the gilded trim. Adding to its distinctive character, the scarves arching over both arms inlaid with red coral paste with blue accents at the shoulders, and the tall topknot rising above the crown is finished in lapis blue — a rare interplay of crystal, gold, and color found on only our most special pieces. At the request of the buyer, we can further embellish the statue’s Bodhisattva crown and earrings with turquoise and red coral stones — please be sure to place the request before shipping, and we will include the service at no extra charge.
Tibetan Amitayus Statue Features
Our Tibetan Amitayus statue is depicted in full lotus pose sitting on a single lotus pedestal ringed with bold petals and finished with a fine cross-hatch band at the foot. Amitayus holds the ambrosia vessel on his lap, filled with amrita, the nectar of immortality, its gilded lid rising into an ornamental sprouting plume. The vase rests on his upturned palms in the Dhyana Mudra, the meditation gesture — a mudra of deep significance in Buddhism, believed to enhance concentration during the practice of meditation. Read about his place among the Buddhas in Amitayus in the Buddhist pantheon.
Longevity Rituals of Amitayus Statues
Our Tibetan Amitayus statue has a very close affiliation with Amitabha Buddha, because Amitayus is the sambhogakaya embodiment of Amitabha appearing as his longevity attribute. As a result, an Amitayus statue is usually the centerpiece of longevity rituals performed for devotees who wish for longer life. Learn more about the longevity attribute of Amitabha Buddha in our complete guide to the Tibetan long life deities — White Tara, Amitayus & Namgyalma.
As part of the ritual, a replica of his ambrosia vase is filled with consecrated wine, and small pills made of buttered dough are consumed with the wine during the ceremony. For the ritual to be effective, devotees must have unequivocal faith in the legitimacy of the ritual and in Amitabha’s longevity attribute.
