Please enjoy our new colorful Shakyamuni statue. Shakyamuni was the original Buddha of our time and his teachings are the source of all the Buddhist schools. However, there are some broad differences of opinion in Buddhist thought. Indeed, Buddhist sculpture is no different and some artisans specialize in a more progressive style. Such is the case with the multicolored design of our colorful Shakyamuni statue.

Colorful Shakyamuni Statue Features:

Shakyamuni is seated on a double lotus pedestal depicting the Bhumisparsha mudra. Also known as the “earth touching mudra”, this is the first Buddhist mudra ever used. As the Buddha was on the verge of enlightenment, the Bhumisparsha mudra was used call the earth to witness his supreme accomplishment. Therefore, the vanquishment of the defilements and the end of suffering was witnessed and the demons were permanently extinguished.

The ushnisha was an adornment that was worn by Hindu royalty and upper class citizens in ancient India. The topknot is a three dimensional oval placed on top of the head. Since the Buddha was born as a prince he would have worn this adornment during his earthly existence.

Another common adornment worn by the upper class in ancient India was discs that were used as ear adornments. As a result, when Prince Siddhartha (Shakyamuni) renounced his inheritance he would have removed the discs and his earlobes would have remained elongated.
