This Masterpiece White Tara statue is finished in a luminous moon-white resembling a fusion of real silver and clear glass — glowing with the ambiance of a thousand moons against the rich fire gilded gold of her crown, jewelry, and throne. The engravings on her crown and jewelry are done with intricate precision and adorned throughout with turquoise and red coral stones, and her face is painted in the traditional manner with a mixture of powdered glass and silver, creating an unequaled ambient luster — her eyes fully open and meeting the viewer’s gaze, a rare and striking touch of the painter’s art. She will bring a sense of calm and reflection to any home or meditation center.

Crowning the statue — literally — is a feature reserved for our finest pieces: a Kirtimukha, the “Face of Glory,” carved at the central peak of her crown. Known in Nepal as Chepu, this guardian mask is one of the most beloved motifs of Newari sacred art, traditionally placed at the apex of crowns, toranas, and temple doorways to devour misfortune and protect what lies beneath. From its mouth issue strings of turquoise-beaded jewels that swag across the crown band — the Face of Glory pouring out ornament even as it guards the goddess below.

The color turquoise is a special combination of blue and green — blue signifies the purity of the Buddhas, and green symbolizes their readiness to act. Our White Tara statue wears these colors very well and will inspire all who lay eyes on her. For common questions, see the White Tara statues FAQ.

Beautiful White Tara Statue Features

Our White Tara is fully adorned in the elegance of the Bodhisattva crown and jewels, her dark hair gathered into a topknot behind the Kirtimukha crest. She displays the three neck lines and sits in full lotus pose on a broad gilded lotus pedestal ringed with scalloped petals, its base rim dotted with inset stones, while the cuffs of her dhoti at the knees are worked in richly patterned gold set with turquoise and coral. Her most unique feature, however, is her seven eyes — White Tara is also called the “Seven-Eyed” for their mystical nature. Beyond her open painted eyes, a third stands upright on her forehead, and one gazes from each palm — visible on both her open Varada hand and her raised left hand — and from each sole, so that all her thoughts and actions are governed by insight wisdom and virtue. She is strongly affiliated with long life, healing, serenity, and compassion — read more about White Tara’s meaning and symbolism.

The lotus flower blossoming beside her shoulder — a parasol-form bloom on a carved stem, held delicately in her raised left hand — is another elegant and feminine element of our White Tara statue. But it is not merely a beautiful adornment: the lotus is deeply significant in Buddhism, representing the rewards of Nirvana that await devotees who remain true to their Dharma practice.
