Our 24K gold gilded 12″ Shakyamuni Buddha statue is a depiction of the original Buddha. The most prominent feature of the statue is the classic Bhumisparsha mudra: the Buddha seated in full lotus pose with his right hand gently draped over the right knee, palm flat and facing inward, fingers lightly touching the ground.
The Buddha depicted this mudra as he called the earth goddess to witness his vanquishment of the demon Mara — and by overcoming this final temptation, he achieved enlightenment. Other traditional elements of this golden Shakyamuni Buddha statue include the ushnisha topknot with right-turning hair coils, elongated earlobes, three neck lines, and the urna, the third eye of wisdom — each counted among the 32 marks of a fully enlightened being. Distinctive to this piece, the robe drapes over both shoulders, framing the smooth, mirror-polished chest with sleeves and lap covered in dense engraved scrollwork, gathered by a finely patterned sash at the waist — while the face is elaborately hand painted, from the crisply outlined eyes to the lips finished in red.
