Palden Lhamo is known as the “glorious goddess” in Tibet and she is the protector of the Dalai Lama lineage. Therefore, she is held with special regard in the Gelug Buddhist school and she is strongly affiliated with Guru Tsongkhapa. Additionally, ever since she appeared to the first Dalai Lama during his meditation her consultation has been sought to select each incarnation of the next Dalai Lama.
This hand crafted Palden Lhamo statue depicts her in her ferocious glory as she rides the wild mule across Asia to her new mountain home in Eastern Siberia. A ring of flames surrounding her and she holds the kapala skull cup in her left hand. Additionally, in her right hand she brandishes the demon taming staff. She rides on a saddle made from the skin of her son whom she killed and flayed.
