Tibetan Manjushri Sculpture Meaning

Our Tibetan Manjushri sculpture wields the sword of “perfected wisdom” over his right shoulder. Additionally, the meaning of perfected wisdom is found in the Prajnaparamita Sutra which is resting in the lotus blossom growing over the deity’s left shoulder.

Manjushri sculptures feature the sword of wisdom to illuminate the gentle annihilation of ignorance. Although the sword may seem to represent brute force, this is an incorrect assumption. Instead, the sword held by Manjushri encourages the defeat of ignorance by graceful means.

Although Manjushri is one of the oldest and most venerable Bodhisattvas, he is portrayed with youthful looks. This is because the development of insight wisdom encourages devotees to see things from new perspectives. As a result, seeing things in a new light will enhance youthful looks.

Additionally, Manjushri has his own pure land called Vimala which is expected to be the most beautiful pure land after he completes his Bodhisattva vows to become a fully fledged Buddha.

Manjushri Mantra

It is helpful for devotees to recite the Manjushri Mantra “om a ra pa tsa na dhih” to develop their intellectual skills. A Tibetan Manjushri sculpture makes a useful gift for students because it is believed his mantra can enhance speech, writing, memory and debating skills. Students and intellectuals are encouraged to induce concentration which is a precursor to the development of insight wisdom.
