Shakyamuni Buddha was the lion of the Shakya lineage and rose to become the Buddha of our time. He is the self taught founder of Buddhism and highly venerated in all of the main Buddhist schools. Our 108 Shakyamuni Buddha thangka was completed displaying the Bhumisparsha mudra. This mudra commemorates the moment he achieved supreme awakening and became the Buddha of our time. At that moment he vanquished the demon Mara and the delusions of hatred, greed and ignorance.
