Our Yellow Kubera statue sits in open lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal with his right leg in panhandle. Additionally, he wears the crown and jewels of a Bodhisattva. However, Yellow Kubera is an emanation of Ratnasambhava who is the Dhyani Buddha that represents the wisdom of equanimity. As a result, Yellow Kubera’s main goal is to relieve poverty as an obstacle to spiritual realization. As such, he wishes to bring wealth and prosperity to all Dharma practitioners.
On one occasion long ago, Shakyamuni Buddha was ensnared by demons (nagas). They had begun to torment him while he was in the middle of a sermon and Yellow Kubera appeared to provide protection. As a result, Shakyamuni Buddha requested that Kubera become a Dharmapala (protector of the Dharma). The request was readily accepted by Kubera.
Yellow Kubera Statue Features:
This traditional Yellow Kubera statue depicts the mongoose in his left hand. His mongoose is named Nehulay and he is constantly spitting forth precious jewels and treasure. Indeed, Ratnasambhava is a member of the jewel family. However, Nehulay is also symbolic of Kubera’s subjugation of the nagas in protection of Shakyamuni Buddha. This is because the mongoose is the natural enemy of the nagas (snakes).
In his right hand and also near his left foot he has the fruit called bijapuraka. This ancient medicinal fruit is used for the treatment of fever and other ailments. Additionally, near his right foot can be found a snail shell.
