This 8.5″ multicolored set of 21 Tara statues is the most iconographically complete of the three sets in the Golden Buddha collection — each of the 21 figures is hand painted in her traditional body color rather than a unified gold finish, making the iconographic distinctions between the 21 Taras immediately visible. Where the gilded sets present the 21 Taras in the unified radiance of enlightened gold, this set depicts each Tara as she appears in the thangka painting tradition: white, yellow, red, blue, and the full range of colors that correspond to her specific enlightened activity. This is a made-to-order commission with a completion time of 2-3 weeks. Each figure stands 8.5″ tall and is cast in copper alloy using the traditional lost wax method by Shakya caste artisans in Patan, Nepal, following the precise iconometric requirements of each of the 21 Tara forms as established in the Suryagupta and Nyingma Terma traditions. Each statue is uniquely handmade — no two are identical. Upon request, the crown and jewels of each figure can be adorned with turquoise and red coral stones before shipping at no additional charge.

Tara’s origins are found in the Prajnaparamita Sutra, where she was originally identified as the “compassion of perfected wisdom” — the feminine embodiment of enlightened activity arising from the depths of emptiness. From this single source she has since differentiated into 21 distinct forms, each expressing a specific aspect of her enlightened compassionate activity. The 21 Taras collectively protect devotees from the eight fears and the sixteen fears, and each can be engaged individually according to the practitioner’s personal practice, lifestyle, and daily predisposition. The 21 Tara statues are based on the Homage to the Twenty-One Taras — one of the most widely recited prayers in Tibetan Buddhism, chanted daily in monasteries across Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, and Mongolia. Each Tara is a variation of one of four colors — white, yellow, red, and dark — corresponding to the four types of enlightened activity: pacification, increasing, magnetizing, and wrathful.
