This 10.25″ crowned Medicine Buddha statue is fully fire gilded in 24K gold with a hand-painted face — gold overall with distinctive painted detail on the features — and an elaborate Bodhisattva crown, handcrafted in Patan, Nepal by a master Newar artisan using the traditional lost wax sculpting method. Medicine Buddha sits in full lotus posture on a single lotus throne, his right hand in the Varada mudra holding the myrobalan plant between thumb and index finger, his left hand in the Dhyana mudra holding the lapis medicine bowl of healing nectar. Learn more about Medicine Buddha statue symbolism.

In Tibetan Buddhist practice, a sacred statue is not merely a decorative object or a visual reminder — it functions as a merit field (Tib: tshogs zhing; Skt: punyakshetra), a living focus of enlightened presence through which devotional acts generate proportionally greater merit than the same acts performed without such a focus. The Medicine Buddha Sutra specifically states that those who see his image, hear his name, or recite his mantra accumulate merit and healing blessings as a direct result. A Medicine Buddha statue consecrated through the rabne ceremony — in which lamas invite the actual presence of Medicine Buddha into the figure — is understood in the tradition as not merely representing Medicine Buddha but as being a genuine locus of his compassionate attention. This means that the act of acquiring, installing, and venerating this statue is itself a meritorious act within the tradition, generating the karmic conditions for healing in the practitioner’s stream of mind. The Sambhogakaya form — the crowned, adorned aspect depicted here — is the form in which Medicine Buddha is understood to be most directly accessible to practitioners whose devotion and practice have developed sufficiently to connect with his presence at that level.

Crowned Medicine Buddha Statue Features

The crowned, fully gilded presentation shows Medicine Buddha in his complete Sambhogakaya adornment. His traditional marks of enlightenment — the ushnisha, third eye of wisdom (urna), clockwise-curling hair coils, elongated earlobes, and three neck lines — are rendered in the bright unified gold of the fully gilded surface. The myrobalan plant in his right hand is understood both as a literal healing herb and as a symbol of the perfected wisdom that is the definitive cure for the defilements at the root of all mental and physical suffering.
