Our Lord Kubera statue has a history that is based in Hindu mythology. In Hinduism, he is believed to be the lord of wealth and he will bring riches to those who worship him. Devotees who want to win the lottery or are starting a business will be sure to have a Lord Kubera statue in their home or business. He is often depicted with jewels. Additionally, he is sometimes seen as a dwarf, big belly, one eye and he only has eight teeth.
However, Lord Kubera has also been adopted into Buddhism. As a result, his character has taken different dimensions according to the geographical area. Theravada Buddhists believe he is one of the 4 heavenly Kings who each guards a specific direction. Our Lord Kubera guards the northerly direction.
Lord Kubera Statue Features
The sculpture was hand crafted in Patan, Nepal, by traditional artisans using the lost wax sculpting method. The statue is completed with amazing details in addition to a 24k gold fire gilded finish. Traditional features of the statue show lord Kubera with a his mongoose – Nehulay. The mongoose is the natural enemy of the snake or in this case “Naga”. The snake is emblematic of wealth and greed in Buddhist beliefs. Lord Kubera is a symbol of wealth, however, Buddhists interpret this as an expression of generosity or equality. Indeed, Nehulay is spitting forth precious jewels as a gift to devotees.
