The Buddha is calling the earth goddess to witness his vanquishment of the demon Mara. As a result of overcoming the final temptation, the demon was defeated and he became the Buddha of our time.
His left hand is depicting the Dhyana “meditation” mudra and rests flat in his lap. Insight wisdom is acquired through meditation. This is why the Dhyana mudra is also known as the meditation mudra.
