This magnificent 17-inch Framed Chenrezig Statue presents Four-Armed Chenrezig, or Chaturbhuja Avalokiteshvara, within an exceptionally elaborate ceremonial throne. Handmade in Patan, Nepal, the sculpture is cast from copper alloy using the traditional lost-wax method and fire gilded in 24K gold. The removable Chenrezig figure measures 8 inches and may be displayed independently or seated within the complete 17-inch shrine. His face is separately hand painted with 18K gold and natural pigments, giving the Tibetan Bodhisattva of Compassion a serene expression amid the extraordinary sculptural detail surrounding him.
Framed Chenrezig Statue and Four-Armed Iconography
Chenrezig sits in full vajra posture upon a sculpted lotus pedestal, richly adorned with the crown, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and flowing celestial garments of an enlightened Bodhisattva. His two principal hands meet before his heart in Anjali mudra around the Cintamani wish-fulfilling jewel, symbolizing the compassionate aspiration to relieve sentient beings from suffering. His upper right hand holds a mala, representing continuous recitation of Om Mani Padme Hum, while his upper left hand supports a blossoming lotus, an emblem of purity and awakening within samsara.
The four arms traditionally express Chenrezig’s limitless compassionate activity and are associated with the four immeasurables of loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity. His elaborate crown and jewelry may, at the buyer’s request, be further embellished with genuine turquoise and red coral gemstones before shipment. This optional service adds traditional Himalayan color while preserving the statue’s luminous gold-gilded character.
Ornate Ceremonial Throne and Sacred Frame
The monumental frame transforms this Framed Chenrezig Statue into a complete architectural shrine. An elegant arch rises around Avalokiteshvara and develops into a remarkable arrangement of openwork carving, scrolling forms and mythical creatures. Large makara-like beings emerge dramatically from either side, while smaller figures and ornamental motifs occupy the richly modeled architectural structure. At the summit, a winged Garuda presides over the composition between attendant figures, creating a powerful protective crown above Chenrezig.
The elevated throne is equally distinctive. Its broad architectural base incorporates deeply sculpted ornamentation and a prominent ceremonial cloth cascading across the center. Delicate engraved patterns, raised borders and scrolling details demonstrate the extraordinary amount of hand finishing invested in the ensemble. Rather than functioning as a simple backdrop, the throne creates a sacred environment around the Bodhisattva and gives the complete sculpture the commanding presence of a traditional Himalayan shrine.
