Our Nepali master artisan of the Shakya Caste created our beautiful 24K gold gilded, 18″ Tibetan Chenrezig statue with the crown and jewelry of a Bodhisattva. At the request of the buyer, we would be happy to adorn the crown and jewels of the statue with turquoise or red coral stones. At no extra charge, the skilled artisan can embellish the statue with these special decorations before delivery.

This statue is finished in the round: seen from behind, the rising ribbons, the lotus, and the mala are all backed in red, matching the red flame crest behind his topknot and the painted red tie binding his lapis-blue hair. The engraving continues across the back as well, covering the shoulder cape, the dhoti, and the pedestal in fine scrollwork.

Handmade Chenrezig Statue Features

The deity rests in a full lotus pose on a double lotus pedestal, its two tiers of carved petals set between beaded rims above an engraved base band, with red-backed ribbons rising at either side. Also known as the “vajra pose,” this indicates that Chenrezig sits on a foundation of indestructible virtue — vajra is a Sanskrit word that translates as “diamond or thunderbolt” in English. To learn more about this Bodhisattva’s role as the patron deity of Tibet, see our guide to Avalokiteshvara and Chenrezig meaning.

In his upper right hand he holds the 108 mala beads at shoulder level. Chenrezig is eternally repeating his mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum” and encourages the same dedicated practice from all devotees. In his upper left hand he holds the lotus flower, which symbolizes the transcendence of the murkiness of samsara: like the lotus, devotees are encouraged to rise out of the sea of suffering and blossom in the pure air.

The Chenrezig statues that our Nepali artisans make for the Tibetan monasteries commonly have four arms and a single head. As an embodiment of Avalokiteshvara, Chenrezig is able to hear and see the cries and suffering of sentient life, and he has taken a vow to forgo receiving the rewards of enlightenment until that suffering has ceased. His mandate is to fill the gap until the time of the future Buddha Maitreya. Browse the complete Bodhisattva statues collection to compare all of his forms.
