A unique feature of our beautiful Opame Amitabha statue is the red coral paste that was used to create his face and body. Indeed, the color of Opame Amitabha is red and meditation on the color red can transmute the poison of attachment into the wisdom of discernment. Additionally, the statue features the ushnisha topknot which is a symbol worn by royalty in ancient India.
The statue portrays the Dhyani “Meditation” Mudra with both hands on the lap, palms facing up with the alms bowl of a Buddhist monk resting in the palm of the right hand. Opame Amitabha Buddha can see into a blissful world which is only possible for fully enlightened beings. Insight wisdom can only be accumulated by the extensive practice of meditation. As a result, it is not the same as book learning.
Opame Amitabha’s Pure Land
Our Opame Amitabha statue is a depiction of one of the most unique and highly venerated Buddhas. As a result, of countless lifetimes as a bodhisattva, Opame Amitabha has accumulated an infinite amount of merit. Therefore, he is known as the “Buddha of Infinite Light”.
Pure Land Buddhists teach that Opame Amitabha has a pure land of sonorous and visual bliss. The name of his pure land is Sukhavati and it lies in the west. Opame Amitabha had vowed to forgo becoming a Buddha until he could have his own pure land. Additionally, he will admit anyone who says his name or recites his mantra.
