Our beautiful White Tara Tibetan Thangka has all of her classic features. Therefore, she is depicted with her 7 eyes so all of her thoughts and actions will be imbued with compassion and wisdom. She holds the blossoming lotus growing over her left shoulder and she sits in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal. Additionally, she displays both the Abhaya and Varada mudras.
This White Tara Tibetan thangka portrays one of the most popular embodiments of the Tara bodhisattva. The origins of White Tara are to be found in her close association with Avalokiteshvara – the “Bodhisattva of Compassion”. In Tibet, it is believed by devotees that she was born from a teardrop that fell from his eye. Tara has since evolved into 21 emanations known as the 21 Taras. White Tara is one of the most popular variations of the Tara bodhisattva.
White Tara is also known as Cintachakra “wish fulfilling wheel” because she grants her followers whatever they are wishing for. Additionally, White Tara is one of the three Tibetan long life deities. Long life will allow Buddhists to acquire more merit and gain a more auspicious rebirth. White Tara also encourages Buddhists not to take their practice too seriously if it is counterproductive. Stunning. The work on this Thangka is absolutely breathtaking. It was purchased to be framed and placed over an altar, and I couldn’t imagine a more beautiful piece for this. Shipping was very quick and having the Thangka blessed was well worth it. This was a truly precious find.
