Our Chenrezig thangka painting depicts his two lower hands pressed together in front of his chest. In between his hands he is holding the “cintamani” wish fulfilling jewel. The cintamani jewel will transform itself into whatever the devotee is praying for. Additionally, his hands are pressed together in front of his chest to show his deep respect for Amitabha Buddha.

In his upper right hand he is holding the string “108 malas ” which is also known as the Buddhist rosary beads. Chenrezig continuously counts them while reciting his mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. As a result, he is expressing his compassion for all sentient life. Indeed, Avalokiteshvara is known as the “Bodhisattva of Compassion” because of his unwavering vow to relieve suffering

Furthermore, in his upper left hand he holds a lotus blossom between the index finger and thumb. Additionally, Chenrezig sits in full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal. The lotus flower is very symbolic in Buddhism as it encourages devotees to rise above the murky challenges of samsara and obtain the fruits of Nirvana.
