Our Shakya craftsman created this beautiful 9″ four-armed Chenrezig statue with the special addition of floating mala beads — the strand arcs freely through the air from his upper right hand, a technical feat of the lost wax method. Variations like this began as customer commissions, and we can craft yours the same way through our custom statue services. The statue is finished with the intricately hand carved crown and jewels of a Bodhisattva, and a miniature figure of Amitabha Buddha, his spiritual father, crowns the topknot of his lapis-blue hair.

At the buyer’s request we are happy to embed turquoise and red coral stones into the crown and jewels at no extra cost — please make the request before shipping, or explore our custom statue services. These colors carry special meaning: red is worn by Chenrezig in tribute to Amitabha, and meditation on red is believed to transmute the poison of attachment into the wisdom of discernment. Turquoise unites blue, the color of the Buddhas, with green, their readiness to act.

The statue’s radiant luster comes from the traditional fire gilding process, leaving a flawless surface of pure 24K gold and a face imbued with the divine complexion of Chenrezig — monastic quality made to be passed from one generation to the next.

Beautiful 9″ Chenrezig Statue Features

The Chenrezig statues our Nepali artisans make for Tibetan monasteries commonly have four arms and a single head. The four arms represent the four immeasurables — compassion, loving kindness, equanimity, and joy — explored further in our guide to Chenrezig’s iconography in Tibetan Buddhism. As the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Chenrezig hears and sees the cries of all sentient life, and he has vowed to forgo the rewards of enlightenment until suffering has ceased, filling the gap until the time of the future Buddha. His compassion is so great that he once took birth as a deer and willingly gave his life to a hunter.

The deity sits in the full lotus pose on a single lotus pedestal, his scarf ends rising in carved scrolls at either side. Known as the vajra pose — from the Sanskrit for “diamond or thunderbolt” — it shows Chenrezig seated on a foundation of indestructible virtue.

In his upper right hand he holds the 108 mala beads, eternally repeating his mantra Om Mani Padme Hum and encouraging the same devotion in all practitioners. His upper left hand holds the lotus flower, symbol of transcendence over the murkiness of samsara: like the lotus, devotees are encouraged to rise from the sea of suffering and blossom in pure air.
