Our Shakya craftsman in Patan Nepal hand carved this 8.75″ Amitabha Buddha statue into the finest depiction of the Buddha of “Infinite Light and Life”. As a Bodhisattva named Dharmakara he spend thousands of lifetimes accumulating infinite amounts of merit. Only after he fulfilled his vow of obtaining his own pure land did he finally accept Buddhahood. As a result, he invites all devotees who recite his name or mantra ten times to join him in his pure land “Sukhavati”. After admission to Sukhavati they will be protected and nurtured until they can become fully enlightened. Additionally, they will never be permitted to fall back into the vicissitudes of samsara.

This Nepali Amitabha Buddha statue portrays Amitabha Buddha sitting in full lotus pose depicting the Dhyana “meditation” mudra. Additionally, he holds the alms bowl of a Buddhist monk in the palm of his right hand. Inside the bowl are the three nectars which eliminate the three poisons of greed, hatred and ignorance.
